Featuring performances by St. Maarten’s own Orange Grove band, the last Heineken Regatta party this year was another winner!

For the third-straight-year, Orange Grove, a mix of local, Dutch and Surinamese performers, electrified the Kim Sha Beach, drawing in the 5,000-plus crowd with their brand of rock-infused reggae rhythms.

Also on the dance card was DJ Jigga: a Jay-Z look-a-like, who beat out 249 other Jamaican DJs for the top spot at his island’s Heineken Green Synergy DJ competition in 2008.

St. Maarten’s 2008 Green Synergy champ and the 2008 regional champ DJ Nachum Frank showed off a different side of himself, flashing skin and spinning a new blend of contemporary Caribbean soca and dancehall, and, his specialty, house, old-school and Hip Hop.

Another surprise was number-one St. Maarten Star Search 2008 female vocalist Keila Gumbs.

In an apparent switch from her usual style, Keila drew her audience along for her performance, and even included a guitarist on stage for her tribute to Bob Marley’s classic, Redemption Song.

Speaking of Bob Marley, headliners The Wailers, his old group, did not disappoint. For almost two hours, The Wailers, now with only one of the original performers, delivered a reggae blast from the past, taking the crowd on a nostalgic journey from One Love to No Woman, No Cry.

I apologize for the late delivery of this update. As always, I try to get the fatest, most accurate, entertainment news on St. Maarten/St. Martin, but sometimes work and personal issues get in the way. Thank you to everyone who sticks with us. We appreciate it.
