St. Maarten’s Mixmaster Pauly beat Cayman Islands’  best entertainer DJ Renegade twice Saturday for the title of Heineken Green Synergy 2009 champion. That means the top Dj in the Caribbean is “FROM HERE!!”

A local DJ kept his promise to keep Heineken’s coveted, regional DJ crown in St. Maarten.
St. Maarten’s Mixmaster Pauly faced Cayman Islands’ DJ Renegade twice Saturday for the title of Heineken Green Synergy 2009 champion.

First, the two clashed in round two of the regional DJ competition and then, they battled again in the finals. Veteran host Gary “Gee Money” Euton called Saturday’s Green Synergy the best in six years.

Pauly, whose real name is E. de Weever, claimed his second Green Synergy championship with a crowd of over 3,000  cheering him on at the St. Maarten Festival Village.
“Well, the competition was fair; everybody admitted that the other guy was good too,” Pauly said Sunday. The other guy was Cayman Islands’ DJ Renegade, a high-energy performer who pulled massive crowd support throughout the contest.
Judges dropped DJs from Antigua, Grenada, Guadeloupe and St. Lucia after the first round. DJs got 10 minutes to create their best performance.
H-GreenSynergyfinals00424Energetic DJ Renegade – John Watler – won early crowd support with quick mixing and a combo of contemporary and classic hip-hop and soca, jumping around the stage to energize the crowd in his round-one performance. Pauly led with a remix of the St. Maarten Song and then played his dancehall, reggae and other music to secure his place in round two.
Both were favourites going into the clash.
St. Maarten’s Nachum “Frankie Baby” Frank went against Jamaica’s Jermaine “DJ Jagga” Lindsay, Barbados’ Ron “DJ MVP” Gooding battled St. Vincent’s Shayne “DJ Minime” Alexander and Pauly and Renegade competed head-to-head for the first time.
Going into the finals, the crowd roared hearing that Pauly and Renegade would battle again. Euton said, “These DJs are going in with a clean slate.”

The clash got heated with the DJs tossing cutting dancehall songs and insults both ways. Pauly pulled the most crowd support, which accounted for half of the total points in that round.
Renegade said after the show that he expected to claim the crown, but he planned a return. “I won, but me never win, but ST. Maarten I will be back,” Renegade said.
Pauly said that nothing said at the clash was personal. It was all part of the show, he said. “In that clash thing, you have to speak like that to hype the crowd,” Pauly said. “When you look at the end of it, we were shaking hands and hugging on the stage.”
Pauly is the 2005 Green Synergy champion. He has placed in the top three each year since except last year when dengue fever kept him from competing.

He won $10,000 from Heineken.
