St. Maarten’s first-ever District Queen Marjorie Ramirez is competing against girls from 11 other islands next month at the annual Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant in Nevis.
The 19-year-old won the District Queen pageant for her hometown of Philipsburg during the 2010 St. Maarten Carnival.
The Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant is scheduled for July 27. It is part of Nevis’ annual Culturama event, a two-week mix of music, culture and entertainment. The pageant, which is about “showcasing beauty with a purpose, talent, [and] ambassadorial representation,” enters its fifth year this summer.
Young women from, among other places, St. Kitts, Anguilla, Antigua, British Virgin Islands and U.S. Virgin Islands, and Trinidad. “It is our profound pleasure to present and invite you to participate in one of the most illustrious and breath-taking pageants that takes place on the island of Nevis,” said head organizer Randy Jeffers to Ramirez in a letter.
Awards will be going for Best Swimsuit, Best Talent, Best Evening Wear and Best Interview.
Marjorie won Best Speech and Best Interview at this year’s pageant. She was praised as the best speaker that night, and the best representative.
