Nineteen-year-old Marjorie Ramirez did Philipsburg proud early Saturday with a win at the the first-ever St. Maarten Carnival District Queen pageant.

She faced five intense rounds of competition, and claimed titles for Best Speech and Best Interview.

Marjorie impressed from her opening presentation about town, praising the district’s history as a shopping, tourism and social capital.

First runner-up was Mary’s Fancy’s Bria Sorton, who claimed the Ms. Popularity title with an overwhelming 3,466 votes on the More Bacchanal popularity poll. Sixteen-year-old Bria, last year’s Teen Carnival Queen, brought the largest cheering section, and surprised many with her pan-playing skills in the talent segment.

Sucker Garden’s Amanda Rombley claimed the most titles: she got prizes for being Ms. Photogenic, best performance in evening wear and wearer of the Best Costume Design. She also finished as second runner-up.

Twenty-year-old Shanay Andrews claimed prizes for Best Talent – with her daring dance on a 20-foot-plus ladder.

Shanay also claimed the title for Best Costumed Performance for strutting in her Blue Tulip-inspired creative wear.

St. Peters’ representative Carmelita Richardson was named Ms. Amity by the other contestants.

  2. i dont think it was judged correctly dat was not god shanay andrews get best talent n more thins dan bria wat would ur island be wit no fare person in it it was all bout like n i kno chris lyold wasnt proud of de decission they dumb judges made i think they mixup the girls name n numbers n i will make sure ppl does cum again to see dat show ever imaging i brought guess from over seas to de show n they askin me how st.maarten reacts like dat it seem like one was gven to de judges who to make win

  3. Congrats to all de contestants but dat show was judge after favortism i can see shanay andrews deserve to get a place bria show never be place but we all kno wat happen wen money is being paid to get a place

  4. this show was judged unfairly…how bria place in this show..she aint deserve first place..i think it should be marjorie then…amanda then shanae…miss popularity she win and she come first…she aint deserve this at all…buh yh wen u pay money u get wa u wan..them ppl ga preference..all i could say is…marjorie deserve to win..but bria aint suppose to be there..all i could say is she aint win..and thats good
