Have you ever watched “America’s Best Dance Crew” on MTV, wishing your favorite local dance squads had the shot to perform on in front of televised audiences for real cash prizes?
Well, next month, Mikki G Productions is giving eight local dance crews that shot.

Starting in the second week of November, eight crews representing both French side and Dutch side will battle on pre-recorded, televised showdowns in the hopes of becoming “St. Maarten’s Top Talent Dance Crew”.

A $3,000 cash prize and the exposure of eight weeks of being on TV are the prizes, the organizer says.
Originally, Mikki G was hoping for 16 crews – eight Dutch St. Maarten and eight French St. Martin – would compete, but he was disappointed only about half that number of groups had registered at his website and auditioned. “But we can still keep the show with eight crews,” former dancer Mikki G says.
The format will be simple.
From November until New Year’s Eve, the crews will battle weekly for text message votes from fans around the island.

Each week is a different theme (e.g. Zouk one week, Soca another), and each week the competition will get more intense, says Mikki G. The dance group with the least amount of SMS votes each week is eliminated in the next week’s episode, culminating with the final, two-crew faceoff on the boardwalk. “We want to do a [live] show for New Year’s,” Mikki G says.
Mikki G says his goal is to take dance locally in a more professional direction, and to give young performers an opportunity to be seen by a wider audience.

The exact date of the first episode will be announced in the next few weeks.
