Caravanserai’s entertainment doubled-header Bliss and Sunset are now closed after Hurricane Omar ravaged the Simpson Bay-Maho areas.

Just back open after being shut down for a while, Sunset Beach Bar was ripped apart by the Category 3 monster on Thursday. Chairs, benches and part of the bar area are all that is left of Sunset after Omar pulled canopies down and tossed around chairs and supplies. Sunset had just reopened in August after being closed for just over a month.

According to Today newspaper, one of the new owners plans to rebuild as soon as possible. Sunset will be open “within a week”, and all repairs should be down “within a month and a half”.

The only open-air nightclub on St. Maarten, Bliss sustained major damage. Caravanserai’s courtyard and parking areas were also flooded.

Also, according to some information, the road to Caravanserai has been blocked to traffic while clean-up crews try to revitalize the damaged airport, and the rest of the Caravanserai area.

More Pictures coming soon..!

  1. Also damaged by Hurricane Omar was the recently opened “French Touch” restaurant, located next to Bliss.

Other restaurants, mainly in the Pelican / Simpson Bay area, also sustained some damage but have scrambled to reopen. You can read more St. Martin and St. Maarten restaurant updates at http://www.dinesxm.com
